ANNOTATED STATUTES – THE FIRST TAKE ON NEW LAW

This exciting new service gives you insight into the meaning of new law when you need it most.

Annotated Statutes also provide you with the most authoritative and up-to-date guidance on existing law as it develops through new legislation and judicial interpretation.

Within two weeks of Royal Assent our team of 40 lawyers, led by Barrister and Parliamentary Counsel Daniel Greenberg, will explain the effect, purpose and likely application of new law.

WHAT’S INCLUDED ON GO LIVE?

• All new UK Acts, Scottish Acts and Welsh Measures within two weeks of Royal Assent
• Initial archive back to 2007
• An expanding archive of key pre-2007 Acts
• Customer requests – tell us what you would like to see annotated

We will be adding annotations to more pre-2007 annotations on an ongoing basis.

WHAT’S COVERED?

• Effect and purpose
• Term definitions
• Judicial consideration
• Possible ambiguities
• Human Rights application
• Derivation or origin of an enactment
• Pepper v Hart notes which cross-reference Hansard reports of Parliamentary debates

Expert explanations of almost 300 terms that regularly occur in legislation are included in the
General Notes section. These notes provide you with guidance on any ambiguities in the language used and clarify the meaning of terms used in legislation.
