Naming WestClip Alerts Update

New functionality has been added to the WestClip Alert centre on Westlaw UK. When creating a WestClip Alert, you will now be able to enter up to 40 characters as a name for your Alert. To rename any WestClips that you have already set up, just click Alert Centre in the top right-hand corner of the screen and click the arrow next to WestClip.

Enhancements to Westlaw Watch Update

  • Remove Unsubscribe Link – this feature allows you to remove the Unsubscribe Link if using a distribution list or MS Outlook rules. Doing this will prevent recipients unsubscribing on behalf of your entire distribution list.
  • White Background – the Westlaw Watch interface now has a white background for a better user experience.
  • Web Page Security – this allows you to restrict access to the users from your own network (ie IP based security).
  • Directory Filtering – use the drop-down menu to display all entries or Clips, Docket Alerts, Single Source Monitors, or Westlaw Modules individually. See screen shot below.

Selected New Databases

Law of Purchasing, 2nd Ed. (LPURCH)

This database contains the full-text of Law of Purchasing, 2nd Edition, a Thomson/West treatise originally published by Business Laws, Inc (BLI). It includes a complete explanation of all the legal issues in the business of purchasing.

 

Model Documents Combined (MODELDOC-ALL)

This database contains a wide variety of agreements, contracts and other documents filed with the SEC. It provides a wealth of information and practical guidance to consider as models for similar transactions.

 

Securities Litigation Report (GLSLR)

This full-text database of Securities Litigation monthly newsletter contains articles and regular columns analysing the latest developments in private actions and government enforcement. It focuses on a number of topics, each directed by an editor with years of relevant experience and expertise. Full coverage begins with Volume 2, Issue 3, October 2005 to the present day.

Did you Know?

If you find it difficult to remember which connectors can be used on each database, don't worry. Within any Westlaw advanced search you can use either /s or w/s as a connector. This makes it easy to copy and paste a search from one database to a Westlaw search and it also works with all other proximity connectors.

Commercial Law Cases available on Westlaw UK
 

We are pleased to announce that the Commercial Law Cases (CLC - RPTS), starting from 1994 to present, became available on Westlaw UK from September 5, 2006. This series includes full-text judgments of commercial cases heard in:

  • House of Lords
  • The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council
  • Court of Appeal (Civil and Criminal Divisions)
  • Queen's Bench Division
  • Chancery Division of the High Court (including the Commercial Court, the Admiralty Court and Official Referees' Business)

This adds a further 1,200 cases to Westlaw UK's current archive of over 186,000 cases and transcripts in full-text.

Internet Explorer support for Macintosh users

Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer for Macintosh computers on December 31, 2005. If you attempt to access Westlaw UK using Internet Explorer on a Macintosh, you will be offered a link to download Apple's Safari browser, shown on the following screen.

New Westlaw UK Worldwide - Business Public Records Subscription

Westlaw UK Worldwide has a new Business and Public Records subscription available for purchase. Business Public Records contains general company content, including detailed company information, professional licenses (US), corporate filings, and worldwide business tracking from Dun & Bradstreet.

A selection of databases provided in this subscription are listed below:

 

BUS-TRACK

The BUS-TRACK database provides information on companies and professionals and is used to locate businesses, identify potential clients, or obtain basic information about specific businesses.

 

This database combines a number of sources for locating and evaluating companies worldwide and is enhanced with views from the following sources: D&B WORLDBASE (Dun & Bradstreet, Inc); CORP-ALL (Corporate Records); BUSFIND-ALL (Business Finder Records); and FBN-ALL ("Fictitious Business Name" records).

 

BUS-TRACK records typically include the following fields:

 

  • Business Name
  • Business Address
  • Contact/Executive name

CORP-ALL

The CORP-ALL database contains state Corporate, Limited Partnership, Partnership and Reserved Name records from 49 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

 

EA-ALL

The EA-ALL database provides information on executives and businesses. EA-ALL is typically used to identify executives and business affiliations, identify potential clients, or obtain basic information about specific businesses. EA-ALL includes executive and business affiliations for active and inactive records. 

 

DNBBD-ALL

The Dun & Bradstreet Business Directory provides access to business backgrounds of approximately 15 million US companies. 

 

DMI-US

Dun & Bradstreet Market Identifier records typically include the following fields:

  • Company name
  • Location type
  • Address
  • City
  • State
  • Phone number
  • DUNS number
  • Primary SIC code
  • Executive name

Financial Times Embargo

From September 1, 2006 the Financial Times imposed a 24-hour embargo on its content, meaning that Westlaw UK customers are unable to access FT material until 24 hours after FT have published in hard copy and on their own website. Please note that this embargo affects all data providers.
