Table of Contents Service - Browse and Search

The Table of Contents service offers an easy way to browse statutes, regulations, and treatises. You can also use it to search only the relevant portions of a treatise or code.

Browse

After you access the table of contents for a statutory, regulatory, or treatise database, browse the headings by clicking the plus (+) and minus (-) symbols. To expand all sections of a title, chapter, part or sub-part, select one or more check boxes and click Expand Selection(s) at the bottom of the page. The portion of the table of contents you selected will be expanded.

Click a link to view the full text of a document in the Link Viewer. To retrieve all sections of a title, chapter, part or sub-part, select one or more check boxes and click Search at the bottom of the page. The Table of Contents search page is displayed.

Search

The Table of Contents service also provides an easy way to search within a defined section of a code or other publication. This feature is particularly useful when searching a long treatise or publication, eg the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), for documents that you know appear only in one or more sections. For example, if you only want sections on the bad debt reserves of banking institutions, why search the sections that govern corporate liquidations?

By restricting your search to a specific chapter or other section of a publication a single term will often be sufficient making searching easier.
To run a search, complete the following steps:

1. While viewing the table of contents select the check boxes next to the titles, chapters, sub-chapters, or other sections you want to search

2. Click Search
3. If desired, type a term(s) in the Terms and Connectors search box using connectors to specify the relationship between terms, eg electronic /3 device
4. Click Search

Keeping an Eye on Infringers

When it comes to potential patent infringers, let WestClip and KeyCite Alert do the monitoring for you.

Might your client's patent be infringed by applications granted today? By those granted two days from now? Three weeks from now?

To find out, you do not have to run daily searches in United States Patent Materials–All (US-PAT-ALL) or other patent records databases. Instead, WestClip and KeyCite Alert can notify you automatically when developments occur.

To find out more about setting up Westclips and Keycite Alerts please contact the Westlaw UK Customer Support Team on 0800 028 2200 or email enquiries@westlaw.co.uk.

From the Westlaw Archive

2007 WL 1752392 - Avvo Corp, a company which ranks attorneys on a scale of
1 to 10, is facing a class action suit brought by some of those it ranked. The class says the rankings are misleading, unreliable and meaningless, while the company says its rating system is consistent and evenly applied to all attorneys.
