Graphical Statutes: helping you with your legislative history research

Legislative history research can be complicated and frustrating when you’re trying to untangle the revisions, amendments, technical corrections, and even re-codifications that might comprise the history of a single section.

‘Graphical Statutes’ gives you a flow-chart view of the history of a statute section. A typical ‘Graphical Statutes’ chart displays:

  • Current, prior, and future versions of statutes
  • Enacting and amending public laws
  • Legislative history documents (e.g., bill drafts, reports, journals.)
  • Cases that negatively impact a statute
  • Legislation enacted but not codified

Each citation in the display contains a hypertext link to the actual text of the document.

You can access this new feature from a displayed statute section on Westlaw by clicking ‘Graphical Statutes’ on the Links tab.
