ALL CHANGE FOR THE COMMENTARY
SERVICE
We’ve made some big
changes to the Commentary section of Westlaw UK. You can read
about them below, or watch a video
demonstration .
We
have introduced a Books section, which
will replace the current Commentary tab.

This newly named
section includes all commentary and Common Law Library titles
in one place, allowing you to effortlessly find the commentary
you want without the need to switch between
screens.
NEW NAME BRINGS A NEW
LOOK
Along with the name change, there is
also an all new
layout.
The Books section is
now customised according to your subscription. A
full list of the legal titles available on Westlaw UK displays
on screen, but they are separated according to whether or not
they are included within your subscription.

This will allow
you to instantly see which books you can include within your
research.
If your
organisation is set up with pay-per-view,
then the titles that fall outside of your subscription will
appear as active links, allowing you to include them within
your search, but at an additional cost.

If your organisation is not set up
with pay-per-view, then the titles not included
within your subscription will be greyed out.

SEARCH WITH
EASE
We’ve introduced tick boxes so it will be much easier
for you to refine your searches across the books on Westlaw
UK.
Simply type your terms into the Free Text
search box and tick the box by the title (or titles) that you
wish to search. You can select the entire list or pick certain
titles that would be most relevant for the type of search
you’re performing.

Your search results are automatically ranked
alphabetically by title and then by content.
However, you
can re-rank this list by relevance. Just click on the link in
the top right-hand corner.

PDF VERSIONS MEAN NO MORE
PHOTOCOPYING
On launch you
will be able access and download PDFs of whole chapters for
all Common Law Library titles and for Archbold on Westlaw UK.
In
the Table of Contents for these titles you will
see next to all the chapter
names.

Click on the icon to open a PDF version of that chapter
in full.

If you’re viewing the
original mainwork, then the PDF will be a replica of the
printed book.
CONSOLIDATED CHAPTER PDFs
With Westlaw UK’s intuitive
functionality you also have the option to access enhanced
versions of books, which incorporate changes and updates from
any supplements to the mainwork that have been
published.
To access the PDF of a
consolidated version, you will need to select the
“incorporating supplement” option from the title’s
homepage.

Once in the Table of Contents
screen, you will again see PDF icons next to chapter
names. Click any of these icons to access the consolidated PDF
of that chapter.
Consolidated PDFs will contain
the icon throughout.

This is an indication that the
footnote or section next to it has been changed or updated by
the supplement and is therefore new
content.
You can also access full chapter PDFs from the document
you are viewing. Simply select the PDF of entire
Chapter link in the top right-hand corner of any page
to open the document.
All Chapter PDFs are
machine-readable, which allows you to copy and paste text from
the PDF, and ensures Westlaw UK complies with accessibility
legislation.
PLEASE NOTE
Unfortunately, on launch of the Books section,
all direct links to commentary and Common Law Library titles
you may have had saved stopped working. We would like to
offer our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you.
However,
recreating your links is quick and esay to do. Simply browse
to the title you wish to link to and click the Build Link
option in the top right-hand corner. Then follow the
instructions on screen.
Customers
with hosted intranet solutions will have had their links
updated automatically.
If you have
any questions or concerns please contact the Customer
Training and Support Team on 0800 028 2200 or customer.service@westlaw.co.uk.
